Money Smart Week

Kishwaukee United Way, Econ Illinois, and local partners are excited to bring the national Money Smart Week initiative to DeKalb, LaSalle, and Lee County communities. This initiative brings together businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, not-for-profits, government agencies, and the media to share information on personal finance topics and available resources.

Members of the community and financial literacy experts present information at many locations throughout Financial Literacy Month (April), with concentrated efforts during the week of April 21-28th. ALL PROGRAMMING IS FREE, covering many facets of personal finance, such as:

  • establishing a budget
  • first time home buying
  • estate planning
  • couponing
  • saving and investing
  • tax planning
  • college costs

The Session Idea List can be expanded - please contact us ( if you have an idea or request! Social service and PTA groups, students of all ages, retirees, legislators, educators, businesses and their employees, faith-based groups, and all other community members are invited to attend the many sessions.

Each year some of the events are listed as private. These are sessions that are scheduled throughout April, per request, and are not open to the public. Private sessions are not listed on the community calendar of events and will not be pulled up in a search.

If you have questions, are interested in hosting a school activity, in having a volunteer speaker visit a classroom/school, or having an industry professional present to your organization, please contact us (

All events are free and take place throughout the month of April.  The listing of scheduled events continues to build!
